The Ocean Reef Coast Guard Auxiliary will again present the course, "Suddenly in Command" on February 18, 2016 from 3-5 pm in the Tarpon room. This course is intended to provide guidance for those boat occupants such as guests, friends, spouses, etc., who may find themselves "suddenly in command" if the boat captain (operator) becomes injured, ill, falls overboard, or for what ever reason is no longer able to operate the boat. You are now in charge! Will you be able to take over and insure the safety of everyone aboard without the captain?
Topics include how to use the VHF or cell phone to call for help, how to determine your location in any body of water and give that information to rescuers, flare usage, life jackets, anchoring, emergency gear, and a discussion of pertinent cell phone apps. Following the formal presentation will be a "show and tell" of recommended safety equipment as well as a question and answer period.
Preregistration is required and can be done via email to Peter Liashek, Flotilla Public Education Officer, at firstname.lastname@example.org .
